As managing editor for the Herald-Standard, I have supervised a staff of up to 13 people in creating content for various sections of the newspaper. Responsibilities of the job included assisting reporters in developing story ideas, assigning, editing and working with page designers for layout. Other duties of the job include:
Writing in several content areas including health, education, features, business, editorials, breaking news and more
Managing 1-2 advertorial tabs per month which involves working with advertisers and area businesses for content creation and story development
Researching and fact checking using online tools
Managing freelance writers
Updating Herald-Standard social media when needed
Coordinating shared coverage with other Ogden newspapers
Handling personnel administrative duties such as timecards, vacations and more
Selecting art for stories both produced locally and with the use of wire images as well as photographing for stories
Accompanying publisher and executive editor in meetings with advertisers, local officials and community leaders to discuss coverage and advertising possibilities

While serving as features editor for the Herald-Standard, my primary duties included:
Managing reporters responsible for the creation of content in the areas of community, features, health, education, business, real estate and entertainment.
Working as a team with the publisher and executive editor to create additional sections in the newspaper dedicated to the areas mentioned above
Creating a new, 20-page weekly entertainment magazine to highlight the creative and performing arts throughout the Western Pennsylvania area.
